Kim Jong-Un On A Train Trip Across China To Meet Trump In Hanoi

North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un is currently rolling across China by train, drawing attention and annoyance from the Chinese public.

Kim is on his way to Hanoi to meet for the second time with US President Donald Trump. Rather than taking a quick four-hour flight from Pyongyang, he has instead opted for a 60-hour ride on his luxury, bulletproof train, a mode of transportation that has been historically favored by Kim’s family.

The distinctive green train has already been spotted by many, rumbling through cities like Zhengzhou and Wuhan on its 4,000-kilometer journey south, drawing complaints online about traffic jams from road closures and mockery regarding the slow speed (60 kph) of the Supreme Leader’s locomotive.

Many of these posts have since been deleted from Weibo. The site Free Weibo ranks Kim’s name as the 5th most censored term on the social network at the moment.

After years of living up to his title as the leader of the “Hermit Kingdom,” Kim has recently been bitten by the travel bug. This transfer makes his fifth trip to China in less than a year. His last visit came in January for a pre-summit meeting with Xi Jinping that also happened to coincide with Kim’s 36th birthday.

While historic, the first meeting between Trump and Kim last year in Singapore ended up achieving very little. No real commitments came out of the summit. Both sides only signed a vague pledge to work towards the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula.

It’s unclear if this second summit, which will take place on Wednesday and Thursday, will be more successful. Trump, at least, appears optimistic.
