Taiwan’s “Bikini Climber” Gigi Wu Dies After Ravine FallThe climber tragically froze to death while dressed in warm clothes and proper mountain climbing gearA 36-year-old Gigi Wu was able to call for emergency rescue at 4:00 pm on Sunday after falling into the 20-meter ravine in central Taiwan’s Yushan National Park. However, bad weather prevented three rescue helicopters from reaching the area where she had fallen. Instead, a rescue team was dispatched to reach Wu by foot. The team hiked for 28 hours, but, unfortunately, by the time that they located her body, there were no signs of life. It’s believed that Wu died of hypothermia. It’s important to note that while Wu may have gained her fame for donning bikinis at the summits of mountains, she was an experienced climber who wore proper equipment during her climbs. Nantou County Fire and Rescue Services said that Wu was found wearing proper mountain climbing gear and clothing to keep her warm. After two days of attempts that were thwarted by more bad weather, Wu’s body was finally airlifted out of the area by a helicopter on Wednesday morning. Her Facebook page has been retitled to “Remembering Gigi Wu.” |
