A seven-year-old girl has died less than two days after she was sent to a kung fu school in central China.

The girl's parents claimed she was beaten to death by bullies at the famous Shaoshan Shaolin Temple Martial Arts School, where had they sent her to lose some weight.

They enrolled the youngster, named as Deng Qi, at the full boarding school in Dengfeng, Henan province and insisted that she was 'healthy and happy' when her father dropped her off on her first day on April 7.

Two days later, the father, Deng Chaohai, received a call at about 10:20am from the school, saying that his daughter had been taken to hospital.

About 40 minutes later, as Deng was on his way to the ER, he received another call saying that his daughter had been pronounced dead.

According to Beijing News, the girl had collapsed at the top of some stairs near the sports ground before a group of students carried her to the school nurse.

CCTV footage the father obtained from the school purportedly shows the girl being surrounded by several uniformed pupils, who he claimed was punching and kicking her.

The school said there was 'no evidence' to suggest Deng had been beaten to death, and that she had not had any physical altercations with any of her classmates

He told reporters: 'The camera was very far away from our daughter, but it looked like someone had pushed her over, kicked her and punched her.'

'Her face was purple and there was bruising on her stomach,' the man added.

The martial arts school has strongly denied the allegations of bullying leading to the girl's death.

They have confirmed that the Dengfeng Public Security Bureau was investigating the case.

The school's director, surnamed Chen, told reporters that Deng Qi had 'passed out while playing', calling all other theories 'libellous rumours'.

The girl's father had decided to send the girl to the school for exercise as she weighed more than 50 kilogrammes (110 lb / 7st 8) and had trouble walking.

The family paid 10,000 yuan for a six-month course at the school after a neighbour recommended it to them.
