Chinese Company Unveils Electric Super Car

A Chinese company called Techrules has unveiled a turbine-powered electric supercar called “Ren” this week at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. The groundbreaking supercar is powered by the company’s new Turbine-Recharging Electric Vehicle (TREV) technology, which features a turbine range extender that can spin up to 96,000 rpm.

The BMW i3 and Chevy Volt both have range extenders, but the big difference here is that those two models use an internal combustion engine to recharge the battery, while the Ren uses up to two turbines to keep the supercar moving. When the Ren goes into production, it will be the world’s first production electric supercar that will be powered by a turbine range extender system. According to Techrules, the turbine powertrain saves weight and allows for a smaller battery.

The Ren will be offered in different configurations, but the flagship version will be powered by a 25 kWh Lithium-Manganese-Oxide battery, with two motors at the front and four at the rear. The powertrain generates an insane 1,287 horsepower and has a range over 700 miles from 21 gallons of diesel fuel. 14 kWh and 32 kWh battery options will also be available.

Inside the Ren features a unique interior that has the driver sitting in the center, with two rear passengers on either side. The Ren features lots of new technologies, including advanced driver assistance systems and a variety of driving modes. Inside the driver’s cockpit, the center of the steering wheel features a self-leveling screen that displays performance-focused instrumentation while rear-view cameras feed three monitoring screens.

“Thanks to the unique modular design of the Ren chassis and powertrain, we have a perfectly engineered vehicle to deliver our TREV technology in the most efficient way, according to the exact requirements of the customer,” stated William Jin, the founder and CEO of Techrules. “Techrules is introducing a luxury electric supercar with great dynamic performance that is more environmentally friendly and more convenient than anything comparable on the market today.”

A production date hasn’t been announced, but Techrules hopes to bring the Ren to market within the next few years.
