Fairground Horror as Children's Ride Collapses in China (Video)

A nine-year-old child and eight adults have been injured after a fairground ride crashed on top of them.

Horrifying footage shows the moment the ride collapsed, trapping dozens of screaming people underneath. One person was seriously injured.

The victims were enjoying the first night of the Liu Chengcun Wangya temple fair in China's Xihe county on March 9 when the ride malfunctioned seconds into starting.

Shocked witnesses told Beijing Youth Daily they heard a sudden "bang" then saw an iron column in the middle of the ride snap and send sparks flying.

They said the seats then fell to the ground and people began screaming.

One villager said the ride was about four or five metres into the air when the accident happened.

He said the ride was just starting when it collapsed, adding: "Fortunately, it was not completely into it's cycle, because if it was it would've been much higher up and more people would have been hurt."

The seriously injured victim was rushed to the First People's Hospital in Tianshui City, while the remaining eight were taken to the Xingkang Hospital Observation to be checked over.

The ride has now been demolished and police are investigating.
